Isaiah Ceccarelli: Ardoise

Role: Curation, artistic design & planning, program management, development

Isaiah Ceccarelli was commissioned to create a digital exhibition that responded to an in-gallery installation of an exterior binding of the Nigaristan by Ahmad Ghaffari. The exterior binding was part of the Summer-Fall 2021 exhibition, REMASTERED. Ceccarelli, along with his collaborator, Eugénie Jobin, conducted field recordings and collections of natural objects from their rural Québec location, to create a graphic score (top image) and performance in response to the history of natural production and collaboration embedded in the historical methods of c raft and construction found in the book binding.

The graphic score created by Ceccarelli reflects the degree of detail and quiet presence in the historical binding. By blending field recordings, electronic manipulation, and found objects, Ceccarelli and Jobin unpack, in sonic form, the materiality of this exquisite historical object.
