In 2013, the notorius Dutch jazz improvisation ensemble Instant Composer’s Pool returned to Montréal for the first time in over a decade, to give a series of workshops, panel discussion and residencies.

The 10-piece ensemble gave a 3-day public improvisation workshop, open to Montréal-based artists and performers. In addition to the workshop, they hosted a lively panel discussion and series of artists talks, including ones led by Han Bennink, Ig Henneman and Mary Oliver.

The two sold-out performances they gave at Montréal’s storied Sala Rossa featured original as well as new compositions, highlighting the key contributions these activist-musicians had made to the world of culturally specific, politically engaged music practice.
