TD Community Sundays
Role: Administrative and Operational Direction, Program Planning, Curatorial Direction, Programming Partnerships
Managing an internal team of programmers and producers to produce a monthly series (virtual and in-person) of culturally-diverse, family-friendly, youth and children oriented art learning programs. Projects were all thematically linked to exhibitions taking place at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) Toronto, including: Mika Rottenberg’s Spaghetti Blockchain, Kapwani Kiwanga’s Flowers for Africa, Michael Lin’s Archipelago and the group exhibition, Greater Toronto Art 21.
Curatorial direction included introducing new artists from equity-seeking groups and newcomer communities to MOCA Toronto, focusing on cross-cultural exchange. Programming partnerships include work with the Ontario Science Centre, Pasta Forever, Workman Art as part of their Rendezvous With Madness festival and Newcomer Kitchen. All programs were led by artist educators, often featuring GTA-based emerging artists, such as Alexa Hatanaka, Sheniz Janmohammed and Emmie Tsumara.
As part of the project, at-home directions were provided in sensory-friendly and AODA compliant formats. Examples include: Little Islands by Emmie Tsumara (PDF, video), Pasta Making with Jess Maiorano (PDF, video) and Mandala Making with Sheniz Janmohammed (PDF, video).
