UBGNLSWRE

Role: Curation-commissioner, creative production, creative direction, logistics, budget management, fundraising

Rescheduled for the Fall 2020 Aga Khan Museum performing arts season due to COVID-19, UBGNLSWRE was commissioned and curated specifically in response to the museum’s temporary exhibition, Sanctuary. Created, composed and developed by Griffin Poetry Prize laureate Kaie Kellough, multi-instrumentalist Jason Sharpe, and featuring custom visuals by Kevin Yuen Kit Lo.

The performance was designed to replicate a directed concert experience, highlighting the inherent tension and nuanced exchange between Kaie and Jason as performers. Through the process, the themes of of cultural heritage, language as expression, and contemporary identity and socio-politics are foregrounded, teased out, and fleshed through.

Taking advantage of their time at the museum, Jason and Kaie created “sneak peek” site-specific performances in the Sanctuary exhibition, as well as the acoustically stunning courtyard space of the museum.
